Solar Battery Storage in Devon

Solar battery storage is becoming an increasingly popular choice for homeowners across Devon looking to reduce electricity bills and make better use of their energy.
Battery systems store excess solar energy for use later in the day and can also be installed without solar panels using off-peak electricity tariffs. At Glo Renewables, we only use trusted battery brands, including Tesla Powerwall, Fox ESS, Sigenergy and more.

Benefits of Installing Solar Batteries for Your Home

Battery storage systems help homeowners make better use of solar energy, reduce reliance on the grid and improve long-term energy efficiency.
Battery storage allows homeowners to store unused electricity for use later in the day, helping reduce reliance on the national grid and providing greater control over household energy usage.
By storing excess solar energy or charging batteries during off-peak tariffs, battery systems can help reduce peak-time electricity imports and lower ongoing electricity costs.
Using stored renewable electricity helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lowers the overall carbon footprint of your home.

Stackable vs. Single Unit?

Battery storage systems can be installed with or without solar panels, although they are most commonly paired with domestic solar systems to help Devon homeowners store excess solar energy and reduce reliance on grid electricity. Stackable batteries allow storage capacity to expand over time, while single-unit systems offer a simpler all-in-one setup.

Stackable

modular batteries

Lower upfront investment
Adding capacity often means adding modules rather than buying a whole second battery.
You can install “enough” now and add later (but this only works if the manufacturer supports expansion on the same platform).
Extra bases, covers, comms, mounting, and labour can make modular systems not the cheapest per kWh once fully built out.
Easy to increase storage
More module-to-module links/comms and more things to commission/diagnose.
Adding modules later can introduce mixed ages/firmware/cell states—most systems handle it, but it can affect balancing and performance.
You can usually swap a module rather than disturbing the entire battery enclosure.
Small footprint
Needs clear height and a stable mounting location (garage/plant room typically).
Each module is easier to handle than a single large unit.
The build is a “system” rather than a single appliance.

Ideal for

One integrated battery stack
Clearly modular/engineered rather than a single sleek unit.
Adding capacity changes the look/height.
More seams, labels, and sometimes external trunking as it expands.
Fox3 Battery

Single Unit

monobloc batteries

Excellent value for fixed capacities
One unit, one set of ancillaries, fewer surprises in small-to-mid installs.
Increasing capacity often means adding another full unit (and sometimes extra protection/controls depending on design).
Fewer interconnections and fewer modules usually means faster install/commissioning (site-dependent).

Ideal for

Best when capacity is known from the start
Generally simpler commissioning and fewer connection points to troubleshoot.
If something internal fails, it’s often the whole unit being serviced rather than a single module swap.
Fewer “moving parts” in the architecture, but you’re locked into one manufacturer’s design and limits.
Consistent cabinet size
You know exactly what you’re mounting from day one.
Handling and mounting can be more awkward (and wall structure matters more).
Typically fewer visible joins/connections around the battery itself.
Very clean as a single battery
Usually the neatest option on a wall.
If expansion is by adding a second identical unit, it can look symmetrical and intentional.
One enclosure is simpler to conceal with joinery (where permitted with ventilation/clearances).
Modular (Stackable) Single Unit
Best suited for
Customers who may expand in the future
Customers who know the storage they’ll need
Starting cost
Lower initial investment by installing fewer modules
Often better £/kWh at larger fixed capacities
Future expansion
Simply add battery modules
Usually requires another complete battery
Value over time
Easy to spread the investment over several years
Better value if expansion isn’t expected
Space required
Small footprint that grows upwards
Additional batteries require more horizontal wall space
Installation
Smaller modules are easier to move and position
Fewer but heavier battery units
Appearance
One continuous battery stack
Multiple individual batteries if expanded
Visible cabling
Usually hidden within the stack
Additional batteries require visible interconnecting cables or combiner equipment (we’ll keep them tidy though)
Servicing
Individual modules can be replaced allowing the battery to continue running.
The whole battery capacity likely needs to be isolated whilst repairs are organised.
Typical size
5–80+ kWh depending on manufacturer
Fixed battery sizes (6, 10 & 12kWh), expanded by adding more units

frequently asked questions

your battery storage questions answered

Here are some of the most common questions we receive from homeowners across Devon about solar battery storage and home energy systems.

Can battery storage be installed without solar panels?

Yes. Battery storage systems can be installed with or without solar panels. While most homeowners across Devon install batteries alongside solar PV systems, batteries can also charge using off-peak electricity tariffs to help reduce electricity costs and improve energy efficiency.

Battery storage systems allow homeowners to store unused electricity for use later in the day, helping reduce reliance on grid electricity and lower ongoing energy bills. They also improve solar self-consumption, provide greater energy independence and can supply backup power during outages depending on the system installed.

Savings vary depending on energy usage, battery size and whether the system is paired with solar panels. Many homeowners use battery storage to reduce peak-time electricity imports and make better use of cheaper off-peak tariffs or stored solar energy.

Some battery storage systems, including Tesla Powerwall and Sigenergy, can provide backup power functionality during grid outages when installed with the correct backup setup. Backup capability depends on the battery system and property configuration.

Glo Renewables installs trusted battery storage systems including Tesla Powerwall, Fox ESS and Sigenergy. Systems are selected based on performance, reliability, warranty support and compatibility with your home and energy usage.

Stackable battery systems allow additional storage capacity to be added over time, making them ideal for homeowners planning future expansion. Single-unit batteries offer a simpler all-in-one setup and are often suitable for standard domestic energy storage requirements.

Battery storage is becoming increasingly popular across Devon as electricity prices continue to rise and more homeowners look to improve energy independence. When paired with solar panels, battery systems can help maximise the use of renewable energy generated at home.

Most modern battery storage systems are designed for long-term daily use and commonly include warranties of around 10 years, depending on the manufacturer and system installed.

Yes. Battery storage can often be added to existing solar panel systems to help store excess solar energy instead of exporting it back to the grid. This allows homeowners to use more of their own renewable electricity throughout the day and evening.

Most modern battery storage systems are low maintenance and automatically manage charging and discharging based on household energy usage. Many systems also include app-based monitoring to track battery performance and energy usage in real time.

Glo Renewables provides professional battery storage installation across Devon and the South West, with systems designed around your property, energy usage and future plans. Our team focuses on high-quality installation, trusted products and long-term customer support.

The whole process was polite, well communicated and managed. All our questions were answered exceptionally well with accurate information. It wasn’t a simple install for us, but all our issues were dealt with professionally by the team of Glo-Renewables as they came across them. The install team worked very well together and the install was top-notch. We were left with a quality install and all the certifications that we needed to support our installation, all building and electrical certificates have been supplied without asking. We Highly recommend Glo-renewables!

I can't recommend Glo Renewables enough. From the initial visit to install to post install check-in they have been so knowledgeable, professional and a joy to deal with. The install team were so polite, clean and tidy. We are now a couple of months of post install and the solar is covering all our electricity needs (including running an electric car) and we are exporting to the gird. If you are thinking of solar give them a call

After ten years loyal service my inverter decided to give up in hot this year’s hot weather.  Great if you like the smell of burning transformer might be worth checking yours.  I called a few different companies who either never bothered to reply or wanted to sell me a new system with batteries, neither of which I wanted or needed.

Then I found Glo Renewables Ltd.  Matthew, my first point of contact was great, really helpful and arranged for Chris the engineer to fit the new inverter shortly after.  He arrived at nine in the morning and was finished by midday and a really nice bloke at that.

We all know it’s not that easy to find trades these days that are not only good at what they do but also understand the importance of great customer service at a realistic price.  As a company I cannot recommend Glo Renewables highly enough.

Bottom line would I use them again?  Defiantly!

I couldn’t be happier with the service I received from Glo Renewable Energy. From the initial consultation through to the installation and commissioning of my solar PV and battery storage system, the entire process was handled professionally and efficiently.

The team took the time to explain the different system options, answered every question thoroughly, and designed a solution that was tailored to my home’s energy needs rather than simply trying to sell the most expensive package. Communication was excellent throughout, with clear timelines and regular updates.

The installation team were punctual, friendly, and highly skilled. They worked neatly, treated my property with respect, and completed the installation to an exceptionally high standard. Everything was left clean and tidy, and they made sure I understood exactly how to monitor and get the most from my new PV and battery system before they left.

The quality of the workmanship is outstanding, and it’s reassuring to know the system has been installed by people who genuinely care about doing the job properly. It’s already satisfying to see my home generating its own electricity and storing excess energy for later use.

If you’re considering solar panels or battery storage, I would have no hesitation in recommending Glo Renewable Energy. Their professionalism, technical expertise, customer service, and attention to detail were first class from start to finish. An excellent local company that deserves every one of its five stars.

Had solar fitted by Glo Renewables and honestly can't fault them. They came out to survey the roof and knew exactly what they were talking about, they worked around our opening times too. Even the export payment paperwork landed in my inbox before I'd thought to chase it. Service, communication and everything in between was spot on. In fact I was that happy with it all, I'm now getting them to do my house as well. Says it all really.
